Welcome to the Chrismas spirit.
November has been a busy month as soon as the last of the Harvest Festival donation were in the Christmas Toy donations took off. Several stores and some businesses have had a Toy drive and donated to the food bank. These are already going into family parcels and will make Christmas special for children that otherwise may have had to go without presents, a big thankyou to you all. This week we had three Christmas trees and lots of decorations donated, these will be passed on and they will make a big difference to someone. again a very big thankyou....
Staggering Support
October continues to be a strange month, the number of parcels issued was way down on the same period last year, 4764 meals to 211 adults and 186 children this year compared with just over 6,000 meals last year. Maybe our efforts in trying to help people resolve their problems is having an effect, that’s why demand is down, I hope so. We seem to be busy most of the time, but a lot of time can be spent on the phones trying to get information on the crisis, some times trying to make sense and just getting to the truth,...
A strange month
September was a bit of a strange month, despite feeling busy we only issued 4,908 meals which is nearly a 1,000 less than the same period last year. There has been a flood of volunteers over the last couple of weeks, we are very grateful for all the support but we really need someone who can come in at least four times a week during our opening times and be dedicated to the food bank. We have a great team of volunteers but most can only do one or two days a week and often have other family commitments. The...
The Worst and the Best
I remember the outburst when our van got a parking ticket while parked just outside the foodbank, “how can they put a ticket on a charity vehicle”. Well this week we have had two Email scams addressed to the Foodbank, "who would scam a charity?" Here at the food bank we see the worst and the best in people, you may not realise it but the Super market surplus goods we receive are mostly if not all out of date so we are unable to place them in parcels.
